ActionAid in Nepal
Key focus areas for ActionAid Nepal are health, water and sanitation, education and livelihoods.
We also lobby government and other decision-makers for changes to the policies and practices that affect poor people's lives. For example we campaign on policies relating to bonded labour, child rights and tenancy rights.
Where possible, ActionAid works with local organisations and community groups so that change is appropriate and long-lasting.
Seventeen-year-old Goma Lakhae was considered one of the untouchables by her community. Her education suffered because she wasn't allowed to attend the same classes as children from higher castes. She began attending ActionAid's children's literacy class and excelled.
"I will be a community health worker when I finish my education. To pass tenth grade will be tough, but I'm working hard and the support given to me has made me confident."
