It is a shameful scandal that in our world of plenty, there are thousands of children right now in East Africa dying needlessly from hunger. 

As corn prices surge on the Chicago stock exchange, ActionAid is calling on the US government to rationalise its energy policies to avoid undermining its own crusade to end hunger.

Curbs on land grabbing in Africa and food speculation are urgently needed to stop hunger rising again, ActionAid said as a meeting of food experts commences at the United Nations in Rome.
