Being a Sponsor

How does ActionAid Child Sponsorship work?

We ask our sponsors for regular donations which work out at $42 a month. Then, we take this steady stream of money and put it to use in the community where your sponsored child lives. This makes sure your money directly benefits your sponsored child without singling them out for preferential treatment.

Once you have become a sponsor we will put you directly in touch with the local ActionAid country office in the country where your sponsored child lives. So all communications about your child and our work in that area comes directly form those who know the child and area best.

Sponsoring a child is an incredible rewarding way to give. As a sponsor you'll receive regular updates from your sponsored child, so that you can feel as involved as possible in their development.

In fact, we can even help our sponsors visit the child they're sponsoring.

Staying in touch

We start with sending you a simple photo of the child you sponsor, which we update every two years, so you can watch them grow up. These are yours to keep as a constant reminder of the life you're helping change. We also send you information about the child's country and community, so you know the challenges that lie ahead.

As time goes on you'll receive messages from your sponsored child. These come with a note from an ActionAid fieldworker, and are a fantastic way to learn about their lives. And we encourage you to write to the children too, because we know how much they love to hear from you.

Through these messages, and updates from the community, you will see how your money is used to benefit the community as a whole. And our supporter magazine, Common Cause, will show you how this all fits in to the bigger picture of our work worldwide.

What you'll receive from ActionAid child sponsorship

ActionAid child sponsorship is the start of an incredible one-to-one relationship between you and child in the developing world.
